Standing Watch

When you look and really see what is happening around you, how can you not get involved? Where does someone's freedom to make their own choices end and your responsibility to a fellow creature end?
We admire those who go far away and try to make a difference in the world but deride and ridicule those who try to change the world around here ...

"Why is he wasting his time? They'll never change."

How many of us are standing silent watch? Sentinels ready to defend their post, ready to sound the horn when war is forced upon their homes. dumbly watching the destruction and devastation on the other side of the line.

"Can't get involved, I can't afford the time off work or the risk of a criminal record. Can't put my family, my home at risk."

Valhalla is filled with those who died fighting, risking all. Hel's gates hold in those who played it safe, died in their sleep old or ill.

The decision is not good or ill but do or don't, yet I mutely watch assuming that my turn will come and standing watch will bring to me that which I must battle when the time is right.
