craft
Where has it gone? So much of the time one only does the minimum of study to get the desired result and ignores the basics and the understanding required to create on your own. The fast way the quick way get it done and figure it out later.
There was a time when one honed one's craft, taking pride in the knowledge and the execution not just the end result. Now it is get it done NOW.
I too fall into this pattern, recreating the work of others because i do not know enough to be truly original. Truly myself.

While there is sometimes a loss of a sense of pride in one's work, I suspect that even back in the day, while the craft was being honed, the workers were still pushed by deadlines and probably well aware of their own flaws in the work they left behind. I suspect that they would wish for more time after they finished and turned in the project.
I have heard it said that creativity is the ability to hide your sources and originality is the ability to forget them.
A better quote on sources is (I believe) attributed to Gore Vidal: "The difference between a good writer and a great writer is that a good writer is influenced by other writers, while a great writer steals from them."
